GUITAR LESSONS FOR AGES 8+
Absolute Beginner Guitar Program
The Absolute Beginner Guitar Program (Stage 1 and 2) is based on Sanel's Authentic Guitar Method. The Authentic Guitar Method is a method that leads the guitar student from knowing absolutely nothing about guitar to gaining the knowledge and technique to read music and interpret music compositions (repertoire).
Absolute Beginner Stage 1
In Stage 1, the focus is on developing a strong core foundation with the right-hand connection, reading rhythm, and musical notation.
Students will learn how to:
Tune and all the necessary knowledge of guitar anatomy
Hold the guitar properly with an aid of a guitar support
Relate the musical staff to the open strings on the guitar
Correctly connect with the right hand to the strings
Write musical notation
Read rhythmic notation
Read musical notation
Read preliminary dynamics and explore them with the right hand
Explore the guitar timbre (sound colour) with the right hand
Play along with backing tracks
Absolute Beginner Stage 2
In Stage 2, the focus is on developing a strong core foundation with the left-hand connection, rhythm, musical notation, and dynamics
Students will learn how to:
Correctly establish the left-hand position
Explore the Vth (5th) fret position on the fretboard
Correctly connect and press (fret) on the string with the left hand
Relate each note on the fretboard to the music staff notes
Read more dynamic markings and how to use them in your own compositions
Start phrasing a melody
Play along to a backing track
Read and write more complex music compositions (melodies)
Explore how to practice
This will all be done with compositions already prepared. Also, the students will have the opportunity to compose their own melodies and exercises that they’re proud to share with their family and friends.
Students are encouraged to explore exams and performance opportunities after their absolute beginner core foundations are done.
Beyond Absolute Beginner
Additionally, Sanel also teaches up to Grade 6 RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) and up to Advanced Theory. For more information about these extra programs and how they can meet your specific needs please contact Sanel here.
THE AUTHENTIC APPROACH
What Are Authentic Guitar Lessons?
Authentic guitar lessons are guitar lessons focused on developing correct guitar foundation for beginner kids and adults.
Students are able to incorporate this foundation into whichever style they choose to pursue later on (blues, jazz, country, etc.).
There is NO chords and there is no strumming.
And there is no playing with a pick.
Connection to the guitar is very tactile with both left and right hands, and fingertips.
The guitar becomes an extension of student's expression. They get to establish their own authentic connection to the guitar.
This creates an awesome way to learn and benefits the student by helping to build self-confidence and self-expression!

Remote Guitar Lesson Requirements
For an excellent experience, a high-speed internet connection is best.
Remote Video Software
Webcam and Microphone (or a Laptop)
Either a webcam and microphone, or a laptop, is required.
No iPhones or iPads (because they cannot be tilted like a laptop).
Please be located in a quiet space for the lesson (i.e. minimal background noise).
A Classical Guitar with nylon strings is the best guitar for beginners as it is easier on the hands and fingertips.
If possible, please tune the guitar prior to the lesson.
Parent / Adult Helper (if applicable)
Children must be accompanied by an adult during the first few lessons (and to help with setup).
See my blog post for more information: How Parents Can Support Their Child In Online Guitar Lessons
The parent may be asked to assist the child throughout the online guitar lesson.
Printer and Binder
Some worksheets and lesson materials will need to be printed.
Worksheet and lesson materials will need to be stored in the binder.
